Opening Letter
Greetings Fairfax High School Students, Family, and Friends,
I would like to introduce myself as your new principal, Georgina Aye. I am excited, humbled and ready to “ROAR” as I serve the Fairfax High School Community in the 2022-2023 school year. I am a lifelong learner, tireless advocate, and cheerleader for children! In collaboration, we will guarantee success for ALL students. This year we want to elevate and celebrate our culture of community and dynamic instructional opportunities.
The Fairfax High Administrative Team, Teaching and Support Staff are working diligently to launch an exciting, engaging and welcoming back to school return. We can’t wait to see you at our Open House, August 19, 3:00-6:00 pm.
We are refining structures and supports that will serve the needs of our future changemakers and also offer opportunities to ensure acceleration, intervention, and goal attainment for each student is a priority. We look forward to high-quality learning experiences that will allow students’ voices to elevate in strengthening their school community and allowing them to dream big and meet their college and career goals. We also look forward to seeing students engage in the social clubs, sports, activities, and programs we have here at the school.
We will place a strong emphasis on cultivating a safe community physically and emotionally for all learners and stakeholders. Through our Lion Time period we will guarantee each Lion has a champion and, in this space, they feel safe to share backgrounds, ideas, diversity, and goals. We will ensure all Lions maximize the opportunity to achieve at high levels by taking advantage of our redo policy, the built-in support time structures, and our learning lounges after school. We are also ready to celebrate with all scholars as we challenge each student to take 1 Honors or 1 AP course in an area of passion and interest.
This year we will work together as one community, knowing we are #StrongerTogether and we desire everyone #FeartheRoar of the mighty Fairfax High School Lions.
See you soon! Principal Aye Twitter: @Ayeprincipal IG- @Fairfaxhighschoolroars
Dear Fairfax High School Community,
I am excited to welcome you back for the 2022-2023 school year. My name is Jenny Payne and I will be the new Director of Student Services at Fairfax High School. Although I am new to the position, I am not new to the school. I have been lucky to be a School Counselor for the last fourteen years at FHS and am excited to be able to serve the FHS community in my new role as Director of Student Services.
I am happy to welcome Ms. Bertha Mensah who will be taking over my previous position as School Counselor for students with the last names Ron-Tom. Ms. Mensah will be joining us from Edison High School and is eager to meet and get to know her new students and families at FHS. We will also have Ms. Dara Markenson joining our team as our new 9th-grade Transition Counselor who we will be sharing with Katherine Johnson Middle School this school year. They will both be such wonderful additions to our team in our efforts to support our students. We will also be making a small alpha change due to an imbalance in caseloads for the upcoming year. All students with the last names Kh-Kim will now be with Mr. Luke Donald. Ms. Haddock will be working very closely with Mr. Donald to help make it a smooth transition.
Students’ schedules will be live in SIS StudentVUE and ParentVUE on August 18th. As a reminder, all schedule changes had to be requested by the last day of school on June 10th. There will be no schedule changes made unless one of the following issues has occurred. Our hope is for students to find success in the courses they selected with the support of their teachers and counseling staff. We understand that it often takes time for students to adjust and feel comfortable with all of their classes and we want to make sure that we provide that opportunity to all students.
● Too few or too many classes ● Absence of a required course for graduation ● Completion of a summer school course ● Inaccurate placement by grade or course level ● The student has “see counselor” on their schedule

I hope you are having a wonderful summer and I look forward to welcoming you all back later this month.
Jenny Payne Director of Student Services Fairfax High School

Attendance Matters Hello and Welcome Back Fairfax Families, My name is Bruni Herring, Dean of Students here at Fairfax High School. The staff and I are so excited to welcome your students to a school year filled with lots of engaging opportunities to learn and grow. A key component to having success in school is attending all classes every day on time. Even if a student is just a few minutes late to class, it can negatively affect the learning of all students. Research tells us that students who are frequently tardy have lower grade point averages, lower scores on standardized assessments, and lower graduation rates. We are committed to ensuring all students are in class on time and ready to learn by having additional staff and support in the hallways to help students find their way to class and arrive on time.
Please partner with us to ensure that your students are successful in arriving on time for each and every class. The first class of the day begins at 8:10 AM and students have 7 minutes of travel time between classes throughout the day. Below are a few strategies and tips we ask that you share and discuss with your child. Prepare their backpack and complete homework the night before, not the morning of. Establish a reasonable bedtime routine and rules for electronic device usage. Have your student set an alarm to wake up with enough time to get ready for school each morning. If your student takes the bus, please ensure they leave the house a few minutes early. If you or your student are driving, please plan ample time to arrive on time (8 AM to allow time to get to class). Be sure to factor in additional travel time for any stops that need to be made prior to arrival and be prepared for heavy traffic upon arrival.
Our expectation is that all students will arrive on time for each and every class and we will hold students accountable. Staff will do random hallway sweeps and discipline consequences will be assigned for those who are chronically late to class.
We are all in this together. Please let us know how we can help your student get here on time every day. I look forward to a great year!
Academic Boosters The FHS Academic Boosters is a committee of the PTSA created to honor and promote student academic achievement. The committee needs the support of parents like YOU to be successful. If interested, please fill out the volunteer form.
On Saturday, September 17, 2022 the Fairfax High School Academic Boosters will again be partnering with Applerouth Tutoring to offer Mock SAT and ACT exams. For more information and the registration link please review the flyer.
