June 4 - Graduation Week Events and Ceremony [Click to Expand]

Graduation

Families of Seniors,

We are so excited to honor your student at our graduation on Tuesday, June 4th  at 9:00 am.

Please review the following information regarding your senior for the week of graduation:

Thursday, May 30th:

The Senior Grad Walk is a traditional event, where a group of graduating seniors visit Katherine Johnson Middle School and several of our elementary schools to walk the halls, thanking the  staff and inspiring the younger  students.  Space is limited on the buses and participation will be on a first come, first serve basis.  Please SIGN UP early to participate.

Monday, June 3rd:

Graduation Rehearsal. Attendance at the graduation rehearsal is mandatory. Seniors are to report to the cafeteria by 10:00 am.  There will be a senior class picnic immediately following the graduation rehearsal.

Tuesday, June 4th:

Graduation is in our Stadium at 9:00 am. Seniors should report in caps and gowns to the Field House by 7:30 am. Seniors have been encouraged to only bring their car keys with them to graduation. We cannot provide a secure location for backpacks/bags and students will not re-enter the building following the ceremony.

Gates will open for the general public at 8:00 am. All guests MUST remain in the bleachers during the entire ceremony. Pictures will be taken from the bleachers and not from the fence lining the track.

General Seating:

Graduation tickets are not required for the outdoor ceremony.

If you wish to be able to sit in a location in the stadium where you can face your senior as they cross the stage, we recommend that you ask your senior where they sat during the graduation rehearsal on June 6. If your student is on the left side facing the stage (likely to be students with last names beginning with A-K), we recommend you sit on the HOME  side of the stadium. If your student is on the right side facing the stage (likely to be students with last names beginning with L-Z), we recommend you sit on the VISITOR side of the stadium. Most parking/shortest walk will be on the Home side and certainly you will have a great view of the ceremony no matter where you sit!

Handicapped Seating

We designate the concrete pad and the upper row of the HOME side bleachers for elderly and handicap seating, and those accompanying guests who have special seating needs.  We also reserve a row on the track, on the VISITOR side for the same purpose (guests needing ground level access and one guest accompanying them). Anyone seeking handicapped seating is encouraged to complete this Google Form.

Handicapped Parking

We reserved the entire Field House parking lot for handicapped parking. Anyone who needs to park in this lot must have handicap license plates or a handicap placard hanging from the rear view mirror. We will have a drop-off location (no parking, but drop-off only) on the loop in front of the ticket booth at the stadium. Guests requesting special seating and preferring to sit on the VISITOR side of the stadium are invited to use the drop off at the lower gate by the concession stand (please enter from Rt. 50 - drop off is not accessible if you enter from Blenheim Blvd). There are limited, first-come-first-served handicap-reserved parking spaces on Lion Run with direct access to the VISITOR side track/bleachers.

Parking on Graduation Day:

We expect thousands of people to attend our ceremony, and so parking will be limited at the high school. To make more parking spaces available at our school, we encourage seniors to be dropped off or to carpool with friends. Once our lot is full, we cannot permit any more vehicles to park on school grounds.

Guest Parking and Shuttle Service:

Guest parking will be available at Home Depot ,3201 Blenheim Blvd, Fairfax VA 22030 . Shuttle service will run from 7am-12 noon.

Inclement Weather Plan:

If the weather forces us to change the location of graduation, it will be announced by 9:00 am on June 3rd  via all traditional school communication  channels. In that event, we will hold graduation in the Field House at 9:00 am on Tuesday,  June 4th if the ceremony is moved indoors all guests will require a ticket. Tickets are distributed to seniors (5 each) at the rehearsal on Monday, June 3rd.

Graduation Cap Guidelines

Congratulations on reaching this incredible milestone!

Graduation is just around the corner, and with it comes one of the most fun traditions: cap decorating. It's your chance to show off your creativity, personality, and celebrate your journey.

Graduation Cap Decorations

  • Cannot contain any advertisement, symbols, abbreviations, initials, words, slogans, patches, or pictures that: Refer to drugs or controlled substances, tobacco, alcohol, or weapons or be of a sexual nature.
  • Cannot denote an affiliation with gangs or which advocate drug use, violence, illegal activity, or disruptive behavior which is detrimental to the safety and welfare of other students.
  • Cannot be obscene, profane, vulgar, or lewd.
  • Cannot include numbers other than the graduation year.
  •  Cannot threaten the safety and welfare of any person.
  • Cannot make noise. No bells, horns, or anything that makes noise
  • Cannot be politically harmful to others

(Failure to adhere to the above guidelines will result in wearing a sad, plain cap on the BIG DAY)

Only the flat, top area of the mortar board may be decorated. There may be nothing hanging down from any of the sides of the cap.

It is appropriate to put the following on your cap.

  • Thank a parent, grandparent, teacher, friend
  • Inspirational Quote
  • Representation of Flag/Country
  • Recognize the university you will be attending
  • Graduation year
  • Branch of the military you will be joining
  • Future Career

Take Your Google Drive With You

If you are preparing to graduate or leave FCPS for any reason, it’s important to know that your Google Workspace account will be automatically deactivated once you are no longer actively enrolled in FCPS. This process happens during the summer, shortly after the end of the school year.  Once your account is deactivated, you will no longer be able to login to your FCPS Google Drive or access your FCPS Gmail.

If you will no longer be an FCPS student after this school year, download or export any files you wish to keep before June 12th, 2024. The download process of files can take several days, so please make sure to give yourself plenty of time.

This year students have the option to use Google Takeout to export their files. Visit Google’s directions here: How to download your Google data using Takeout. It’s important to know that you will only be able to export files for which you are the owner.

If you’d prefer to manually select files from your Drive to download, follow the Downloading Your Data instructions on the Google Workspace Information for Students and Parents page of the FCPS website.

Please work with the tech support team at your school if you have questions.

Class of 2025 - Senior Portrait Sittings

CLASS OF 2025!

Believe it or not, it’s time to begin taking your senior portraits! We always begin in May because there are so many of you to photograph, and unlike underclassmen portraits, these are more of a photoshoot. You can take your yearbook photo for free, or if you would like several outfit changes, pay a small fee for more outfit changes.

Caps and gowns and formal attire will be provided. If you’d rather wear something gender-neutral, you may wear an all-black sweater, a solid-black button down, or a formal, all-black top of your choosing.

We highly recommend you take your photos in May even though there will be dates throughout the summer. All times are after underclass exams toward the end of the school year.

Please click the link below to schedule. If you have any questions, please email Mr. David Greene at @email. But note, however, that scheduling and rescheduling information should be directed to the photo studio using the customer care contact information below.

Below is the contact information for Legacy's customer care service in case you require any assistance

We're excited to get started and we look forward to capturing fantastic images and memories for the Class of 2025!
