1) What has been your biggest disappointment/hardship since schools have been closed for the remainder of the academic year?

My biggest disappointment as a result of school closures has been not being able to walk across the stage to receive my diploma during a physical graduation ceremony.

2) What are your plans for the fall?

My plans for the fall are to attend the College of William & Mary, where I will pursue a double major in Economics and Data Science.

3) What have you learned about yourself since the COVID-19 closures?

Since the COVID-19 closures began, I have learned just how much I value social interaction. Even though I have always considered myself to be an introverted person, I miss seeing the familiar faces of my friends, classmates, and teachers each day.

4) What is your passion? 

My passion, and the reason why I plan to study economics, is creating a fairer, more equitable world. I hope to use my education and future career to achieve social and economic change that will reduce poverty and injustice.

5) Have you discovered a new passion in light of social distancing?

As a result of social distancing, I have been spending more time reading and writing, and discovered a new passion for poetry, especially the work of Mary Oliver.

6) What are your hopes for the future?

In the future, I hope I will be able to say with pride that I helped create a world where every child has a fair chance in life, regardless of where they were born or their parents' socioeconomic status.

7) Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you?

One thing I'd like others to know about me is that my favorite book is Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson; this book profoundly influenced my perspective on contemporary issues and has inspired me to fight for equality and justice. I highly recommend both the book and the movie for anyone bored at home during this time (just make sure to keep a box of tissues close by if you're a crier like me!).

8) What are you most proud of about your school experience/best memory?

My best memory from my school experience is winning the Patriot District championship for field hockey this past season. I am most proud of the role I played in mentoring younger players on my high school field hockey team.
