NOVA Application Workshop for Seniors

This workshop will assist you with completing the NOVA application. If you previously applied or are Dual Enrollment, we’ll assist with updating passwords to successfully log in to NOVAConnect, or for DE students, update the program of study. We’ll also assist you with installing and using the NOVA MFA and walk you through your SIS (Student Information System) information. You will need a laptop and phone for this session.

To attend a NOVA Session, you must do the following three steps:

You must request an APPOINTMENT PASS in Securely Pass (TO: College & Career Center) at least 24 hours in advance of the visit.

NOVA’s Early Online College is back for the Spring 2025 Semester!

NOVA Early Online College (EOC) allows current high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to take up to 2 tuition free college courses.

Fourteen different courses are being offered in the Spring 2025 semester. Courses are asynchronous, online, and for college credit only. These courses run for 12 weeks. EOC courses are selected because they meet the requirements for most of NOVA’s Associate degrees as well as being highly transferable as general education requirements for most colleges and universities. Students must meet eligibility requirements (GPA or available test scores) to take EOC courses.

FIT Portfolio Preview Day is a great opportunity for those interested in an education in the visual and related arts to meet with FIT faculty and staff. Representatives will be available to review your artwork and give helpful feedback on how to strengthen your portfolio.
High school students, parents, and college transfer students are encouraged to attend. Students will sign up for a one-on-one feedback session with a faculty member from one our associate degree programs in Communication Design Foundation, Fashion Design, Film and Media, Fine Arts, Footwear and Accessories Design, Illustration, Interior Design, Jewelry Design, Menswear, Photography and Related Media, or Textile/Surface Design. Your portfolio can include finished pieces, work in progress, and sketchbooks.

Gandomak Persian School Volunteering Opportunity for High School students

Gandomak Persian School is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to assist with our Saturday language and cultural classes for young children. Volunteers will help set up classrooms, support teachers during lessons, take photos at events, and assist with cleanup after activities. This is a great opportunity to earn service hours, gain experience working with children, and learn more about Persian culture through interactive art, music, and language lessons.

USC Summer Programs extends a tradition of excellence to outstanding high school students through a diverse offering of four-week summer courses. High School Diplomats

HSD U.S. is an eight-day program providing 20 American students the opportunity to engage in academic and social pursuits, and forge lifelong friendships with 20 Japanese students of the same age. During the eight-day program hosted on the grounds of the University of Virginia, each American student is paired with a Japanese roommate. The program is sponsored each summer by AIG General Insurance Co., Ltd., along with the Freeman Foundation.

Dates: July 24, 2025 - August 2, 2025
Location: University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA)
Number of Students: 20 American, 20 Japanese
Eligibility: All high school sophomores and juniors may apply. Children of AIG employees and their agents may not apply. We afford equal opportunity to students of all racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
Cost: Room, board, and all activity costs are paid in full by the program scholarship. Transportation costs to and from the program are not covered but financial assistance is available if needed.

Rosetta Institute of Biomedical Research Summer Online Workshops 2024

There are four separate but concurrent sessions of Intro to Cellular and Molecular Medicine, one from 6-8:00am PST, one from 12-2:00pm PST, one from 5-7:00pm PST and one from 7-9:00pm PST. There are three separate sessions of the Medicinal Chemistry workshop, two from 6/17-6/28 (7am-10am PST and 2-5pm PST), and one from 7/8-7/19 (7am-10am PST). The summer sessions of the Medical Bioinformatics workshop will be 2.5 hours in the morning (starting at 8am PST), and 3 hours in the afternoon, and additional time is available for one-on-one project discussion with the instructor.

Tuition for the summer online workshops is as follows: the online Intro to Cellular and Molecular Medicine workshops (6/10-6/21) are $430, the online Medicinal Chemistry (6/17-6/28 and 7/8-7/19) workshops are $570, and tuition for the online Medical Bioinformatics workshops (6/24-7/6 and 7/22-8/2) are $1050.

INTERNSHIPS:

Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program (ASSIP)

The nationally known Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program (ASSIP) provides transformative research opportunities for high school and undergraduate students. Selected participants work one-on-one with faculty researchers at George Mason University and collaborating institutions using state-of-the-art technology across many disciplines.

Eligibility:

Minimum ages: Interns for remote internships must be 15 years or older by June 18th, 2024. Internships for in-person or hybrid internships in computer labs must be 15 years or older by June 18th, 2024. (This is a change from previous years).

Interns for "wet-lab" in-person or hybrid internships must be 16 or older by June 18, 2024. This is a requirement by Mason Environmental Health and Safety and no exceptions can be made. "Wet labs" are those in which chemicals, biohazards, mechanical or electrical risks, or other risks may be present.

The Children's Science Center Lab conducts internship and youth leadership programs for students to learn professional skills, gain practical work experience, and demonstrate the importance of providing fun and accessible, hands-on STEM experiences to children. They have a variety of internship opportunities throughout the year. https://www.childsci.org/get-involved/internship

Audience: High-School students age 16 or older

This internship is 14 weeks long with a mandatory orientation. The internship takes place at the Children's Science Center Lab at the Fair Oaks Mall. To successfully complete the program, interns must work a total of 140 hours. Each week, interns will work one weekend day, either Saturday or Sunday, at the Lab from 9:45 am-5:45 pm, complete weekly professional development assignments, and present a final project.

For Spring 2025:

Interns will:

Greet visitors in a friendly and positive way; respond to questions and needs in a positive and supportive manner;
Learn about museum program activities and exhibits, and display competency in STEM topics demonstrated in activities and exhibits; be able to answer questions about the activity or topic; facilitate educational activities; participate in science demonstrations (training provided); be an ambassador to the public at all times;
Set up activities and activity spaces and follow the established guidelines and schedule for activities;
Maintain control of event space and visitors/students;
Make safety a priority;
Actively engage the audience;
Help with basic facility maintenance to ensure a clean and attractive environment; and
Perform other duties as assigned.

For Summer 2025:
‍The Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CC) Internship was created to expand the cybersecurity talent pipeline by reaching high school students who are 17+ and interested in exploring cyber security as a possible career option. The internship includes professional skills training and placement with Northern Virginia cyber-related organizations to prepare them to enter the cyber workforce of the future. The internship includes a program stipend at the successful completion of the 7-week program and is open to rising high school seniors and rising first-year college/university students.

What is a Steamfitter?

A Steamfitter is a person who fabricates, installs, and services piping systems. Steamfitters work on different types of piping systems – Residential, Commercial, and Industrial. Residential systems are in your house or apartment. Commercial systems are heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration. Industrial systems are the construction of piping systems for electrical power generators, wastewater treatment, solid waste disposal, and industrial manufacturing process.

What is the Steamfitter Apprentice Program?

The Apprenticeship program is a five-year training program. Apprentices are assigned to a union contractor and work on assigned work sites, generally forty hours per week, depending on the job conditions and the economy.

The apprentice is required to attend related training classes at the UA Mechanical Trade School. We have campuses in Landover, MD, Springfield, VA and Manassas, VA. Classes usually start in August and end in May. They are held on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Additional Saturday classes, usually not more than 16, will be mandatory for first and second year apprentices.

The apprentice is paid for hours worked on the job site but is not paid for attending related training classes. Accepted applicants will serve a one year probation period. The probationary apprentice who successfully completes the probationary period by meeting all obligations at assigned employment, in related training class, and to the Local Union, will be initiated into the Local Union.

Our apprentices are required to follow the UA Standards of Excellence. Our apprenticeship program has a strict attendance policy. Excessive absences could result in postponement of both monetary and academic advancement or possible termination from the program. Advancement to the next level of training and pay happens when certain requirements are met such as successfully completing all classes/required certifications and maintaining acceptable job site performance evaluations and work hours.

Future Leaders Exchange Abroad (FLEX Abroad) - Study abroad in high school on a scholarship in Georgia, Kazakhstan, or Poland

Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) Abroad students live with a host family and attend high school in one of four FLEX countries. As citizen diplomats, they form lasting relationships and promote mutual understanding between the United States. FLEX Abroad is a full scholarship program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Launched in 1993 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the FLEX program strengthens ties between the peoples of the United States and Europe, Eurasia, and Central Asia. More than 30,000 FLEX alumni from 24 countries across Europe and Eurasia are making a difference in our world. To complement the FLEX program, FLEX Abroad was started in 2021 to give U.S. high school students the opportunity to explore these amazing countries.

By participating in FLEX Abroad, you will develop leadership skills, make friends in other countries, learn about a new culture by living with a host family, and gain an understanding of global interests and values that are shared across cultures. Your experience will promote the development of respectful and enduring relationships between Americans and citizens of other countries, while giving you new insights into your own culture and the world.

Light Show Attendant is responsible for assisting with the operation of a seasonal light show during evening hours and often outside.

Pay Rate: $ 13.50 per hour

Major Duties/Specific Tasks

Assists with show operations by collecting fees, operating cash registers, issuing receipts, selling merchandise, and maintaining stock of supplies.

TOPSoccer is developed through US Youth Soccer for young athletes with intellectual, development, or physical disabilities, allowing the opportunity to learn and play soccer in a safe, nurturing, and self-empowering environment. The program’s goal is to enable young athletes to grow and develop physically, socially, and emotionally as members of US Youth Soccer with the assistance of volunteer coaches and youth mentoring buddies. This program is in partnership with the Annandale Boys & Girls Club.

This fall, we will be offering a 7 week session of TOPSoccer.

We are looking for volunteers to help support the athletes from week to week. The role of volunteer buddies is under the lead of the coach and to assist participants with follow through of skills/activity, socialization, engagement, and ultimately making sure all are having fun! Consistency is key, so we ask that you be able to make the full season commitment.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX)

Are you a motivated, curious, teenage leader looking to study abroad in Germany for one year on a fully funded scholarship? Or maybe you’d like to become fluent in German and experience a different culture through a full immersion experience. If so, CBYX may be the program for you!

Jointly funded by the German Bundestag and the U.S. Congress, the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX) is a full scholarship exchange program that offers young Americans the opportunity to live with a German host family and attend high school in Germany for a year. This program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and administered by CIEE.

CBYX aims to foster cultural understanding and diplomacy while also promoting the German and English languages. Participants are also encouraged to learn about the political systems of their host country.

CBYX Program Eligibility:

Be a U.S. citizen
Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
Be born between February 1, 2007- August 1, 2010

Congressional App Challenge

Every year we challenge students in our districts to create and submit their original apps for a chance to win the Congressional App Challenge (CAC). Each challenge is district-specific. As U.S. Representatives we publicly recognize our winning teams and each winning app may be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year. Additional prizes may be available. The Congressional Internet Caucus initiates the annual CAC. We have appointed the non-profit Internet Education Foundation to provide the CAC with supplemental staffing and support.

STUDENTS CAN USE ANY PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE (example: C, C++, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, “block code,” etc.) and ANY PLATFORM (PC, web, tablet, robot, mobile, etc.). There are NO LIMITS on application theme or topic!

To be eligible to participate in the Congressional App Challenge, you must be a middle or high school student at the time of app submission.

Students may register as individuals or as teams of up to four. No more than four students are allowed to form a team.

Students may compete in the district they reside in or the district they attend school in.

If competing as a team, at least half of the teammates must be eligible to compete in the district in which they are participating in.

All competing students must be U.S. residents at the time of submission. There is no citizen requirement for students.

Are you interested in attending the United States Naval Academy?

Applying to the US Naval Academy from this area is highly competitive due to its proximity to Annapolis as well as our top-notch local school systems, presenting a unique set of challenges to those interested in attending the US Naval Academy. This session will provide prospective applicants, as well as parents and counselors, with the information they need to successfully navigate the admissions and nomination process -- which is very different from the Common Application used at most colleges and universities throughout the United States. Speakers at the event - including the USNA Candidate Guidance Office (Admissions), local Blue and Gold Officers, staff members from the offices of local elected officials, and more -- will discuss a range of topics such as life as a midshipman, the admissions process, nomination options, and career opportunities available upon graduation.

National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency

The High School Internship Program is for high school students, age 16 or older, that are looking for real world experience. This Internship Program will offer students the opportunity to gain relevant work experience while contributing to an important and purposeful mission.
ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION: NGA High School Interns perform a variety of entry-level functions and tasks in support of the organization to which they are assigned. They are given a work project that involves problem identification, analysis, and resolution. Fairfax County Youth Leadership Program is a partnership between Fairfax County Public Schools and Fairfax County Government. It is a leadership opportunity for current FCPS juniors to learn about local government in a hands on, engaging way. The program runs from February of participants’ junior year through January of their senior year. Chosen applicants will represent their high school and join students from across the county to learn about the role of local government in our lives, engage in conversations about equitable access to resources, and meet and interview government officials (including our County Executive, Board of Supervisors, directors of various county agencies, FCPS superintendent, and others). The time commitment involves 1 meeting each month and a 3 week paid internship over the summer with a local government organization.

Case Western Reserve University invites high school seniors from diverse backgrounds to visit our campus in the heart of Cleveland's University Circle.
November 10-11, 2024

Spend Sunday making connections with prospective and current students and exploring campus.
Join the Fall Open House on Monday to meet with faculty, learn about financial aid and admission, discover student research and study abroad opportunities, and get a taste of student life.

Space is limited, and participants will be selected based on their short application. Meals, lodging and travel expenses (for those outside the Cleveland metropolitan area) will be provided for those accepted to the program.
